Abstract

ABSTRACT: Dengue is a disease caused by an arbovirus, of which there are four serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4) and it is the most important human virus transmitted by arthropods. It is a globally important health problem. It is estimated that 3 billion people live in areas where there is a risk of contracting dengue, and that approximately 390 million infections occur, 96 million of them asymptomatic and 20,000 deaths from dengue per year. This study aims to: Assess the incidence of suspected dengue cases in inhabitants of the municipality of Sesori, department of San Miguel between 2018 and 2019. Methodology: The study is qualitative and descriptive; The place that was considered to assess the incidence of suspected cases of dengue is the municipality of Sesori, the data were collected from the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (VIGEPES) considering the following variables: dengue without warning signs, dengue with warning signs, suspected diagnosis, age, gender and origin. In addition, an interview guide was carried out with a medical epidemiologist and a survey of 16 inhabitants of the municipality of Sesori. Results: In 2018, two suspected cases of dengue were registered while in 2019 nine cases. According to the criteria of the epidemiologist, the suspected cases of dengue in the coming years will continue to increase as a consequence of the pandemic because the intentional search will not be dengue but COVID-19 due to the similarity of the symptoms. Of the inhabitants surveyed (13/16) know the pathogen that causes dengue disease, (14/16) stated that they know and have received information about the dengue virus, (15/16) know the signs and symptoms of dengue Dengue disease, (13/16) state that they know about dengue prevention measures, (8,16) consider contracting the dengue virus to be serious (15/16) do not know where the dengue-transmitting mosquito can breed. Conclusions: the inhabitants of Sesori have knowledge about the virus but do not take actions to prevent and control the development of the vector and therefore the virus. The incidence of suspected dengue cases increased in 2019, which was 0.08 per 100 inhabitants compared to 2018, which was 0.02 per 100 inhabitants. If the pertinent measures are not taken, the cases will continue to increase in the coming years.
