Abstract

ABSTRACT: The main objective of this work is to introduce the theory of Fourier Analysis or Harmonic Analysis to groups. To have a better understanding of the fundamental part of this work, we rely on introductory concepts previously studied throughout the degree, among them are: Topology, Topological Groups, Banach Spaces, Banach Algebras and Measurement Theory; making a summary with the necessary and basic properties of each one. Chapter 2 constitutes the core of our work since it shows the basic theorems of Fourier analysis, for this we introduce the foundations of the abstract theory of the Haar measure and the Fourier transform on locally compact abelian groups. Among the theorems of importance are: The Investment Theorem, Plancherel's Theorem, Pontryagin's Duality Theorem and Bohr's Compactification; and finally Chapter 3 contains the structure theory of locally compact abelian groups, studying the duality between subgroups and quotient mappings, direct sum and nomothetic groups; and ending with the proof of the Principal Structure Theorem
