Abstract

ABSTRACT: Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy treatments were applied for three months, from June to August 2003, to a population of twelve patients diagnosed with Hydrocephalus who attended the San Francisco Gotera National Hospital and the El Tránsito Health Unit. in which the physical and intellectual benefits that were obtained through said treatment in boys and girls from seven to five years of age were verified. Likewise, prospective and field research was used. Applying the documentary and field techniques for which it was necessary to use instruments such as the bibliographic file, hemerographic file, an interview guide, an evaluation sheet of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy and a photographic camera. After having concluded the execution and obtained all the results of the twelve patients to whom the treatment was applied, the tabulation, analysis and interpretation was given, which allowed a clear understanding of the tables and graphs that were elaborated in the which data from the evaluation sheets of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy are presented with the patients diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, presenting the most relevant data. The motor age in which notable improvement was observed in 100% of the twelve patients. It was also found that the most frequent cause of Hydrocephalus in the population studied was Myelomeningocele with 50%. Regarding the data referring to the intellectual area, it was obtained that 100% of the patients approached the intellectual level according to their chronological age. All the above data reflect the importance of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy treatment applied to children with this pathology, thus achieving a development that allows them to obtain their independence in the different areas. Finally, some conclusions and recommendations were presented aimed at achieving the proposed objectives and thereby providing new suggestions that favor the dissemination or knowledge of the research and the area of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
