Abstract

RESUMEN: La presente investigación se realizó en doce pacientes con diagnóstico de problemas de autoestima, entre las edades de 50 a 70 años de ambos sexos, que asisten al área de Terapia Ocupacional del Programa a Pensionados del Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social, de la ciudad de San Miguel durante el período de julio a septiembre de 2005, con el objetivo de conocer la influencia de la Terapia Ocupacional en dichos pacientes y definir la evolución que se puede lograr de una autoestima no saludable a una autoestima saludable. El tipo de estudio realizado fue prospectivo, y las técnicas de obtención de información fueron de tipo documental como la bibliografía y de campo como la entrevista; para lo cual se realizaron instrumentos como las fichas bibliográficas para documentos escritos; test para la identificación de los problemas de autoestima, guía de evaluación de Terapia Ocupacional para pacientes con problemas de autoestima; guía de entrevista dirigida al psicólogo que atiende a los pacientes del Programa a Pensionados del Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social, guía de entrevista dirigida a los pacientes con problemas de autoestima de dicho centro, a través de las cuales se comprobó que la población masculina estuvo constituida por el 25% y la femenina por el 75%. Al iniciar el programa de tratamiento, lo pacientes fueron evaluados con el test de evaluación de autoestima para determinar en el nivel que se encontraban, observándose en la mayoría dificultades de integración y trabajo en equipo, poca confianza en si mismo, dependencia para realizar las actividades debido a que desconocían sus capacidades y confianza para realizar actividades en equipo e individuales, a estos pacientes se les brindó tratamiento de Terapia Ocupacional por tres meses, observando al finalizar el período de estudio que los pacientes habían evolucionado favorablemente en la confianza en si mismo, toma de responsabilidades e iniciativa, integración en equipo de trabajo, la concentración, imaginación y memoria. Mediante el desarrollo de actividades manuales, recreativas, clases de aeróbicos y baile; resultando con mayor capacidad para desempeñar cualquier actividad ya sea manual, cognitiva, emocional y física ABSTRACT: The present investigation was carried out in twelve patients with a diagnosis of self-esteem problems, between the ages of 50 and 70 years of both sexes, who attend the Occupational Therapy area of ​​the Program for Pensioners of the Salvadoran Institute of Social Security, of the city of San Miguel during the period from July to September 2005, with the objective of knowing the influence of Occupational Therapy on these patients and defining the evolution that can be achieved from an unhealthy self-esteem to a healthy self-esteem. Due to the fact that they did not know their abilities and confidence to carry out team and individual activities, these patients were given Occupational Therapy treatment for three months, observing at the end of the study period that the patients had evolved favorably in self-confidence, taking responsibility and initiative, integration in a work team, concentration, imagination and memory.
