Abstract

The subject “Redacción en Español” does not facilitate the development of the ability of writing with cohesion, coherence and unity in Spanish, since the objectives, contents and activities established in the current syllabus of the class are not focused on exercising and practicing this skill. But before getting to this problem, it is important to have some points clear. First of all, why is it necessary to learn to write correctly? What characteristics are involved in good writing? Is the Foreign Language Department aware of the necessity of teaching students how to write well in English? Why is it useful to learn to write well in one’s first language to develop this skill in a second language? And finally, is the subject “Redacción en Español” helping students to develop this ability in Spanish? These important points will be explained throughout this essay. Let us consider the first one, why is it indispensable to learn to write properly?
